CHRIS BOOTH
I was invited to join Rotary in February 1992 through personal contact with another community group.
With a teenage family and a rapidly growing business that required travel, there was some personal doubt that finding the commitment to Rotary could be a problem. However, as one experienced Rotarian advised soon after joining, “Rotary had been built through very busy businesspeople volunteering a few hours per week, or month to help the world, whether locally, nationally or internationally, become a better place”, AND HE WAS RIGHT. Busy people make great Rotarians as they tend to be organised, have transferable skills, strong personalities and are achievers.
On joining Rotary I immediately had new friends, networking opportunities, a common purpose and the privilege getting to know the wider community.
Friendship underpins Rotary and I and my wife have been fortunate to visit many Clubs within Australia and around the world. Finding a local Rotary Club means you will not only be welcomed but also have the opportunity to learn and understand about their community.
Over the years it has been a privilege to be able to give a little time to helping so many projects make a difference to so many people in so many different communities.
Rotary has given me the opportunity to make a small contribution but to be honest I think I have received more back than what I’ve given.
PAULINE PORCARO
A number of years ago, when I was teaching, Rotary were very supportive of my students and I was very grateful. Recently retired, I thought it was time to give back to both Rotary and our local community so I joined The Rotary Club of Dromana in late 2024.
I went along to my first meeting only knowing a couple of people. Before the evening was out, so many members came and made themselves known to me with very warm welcomes. I left feeling what a lovely bunch of people!
Since then, I’ve been involved in many activities, the monthly market, the Carols night, the Australia Day celebrations, our Open Garden day, and a range of other smaller activities and meetings. I also help to look after the social media accounts and website. It has been so rewarding to be able to assist at these events and to help my colleagues. I’m really feeling part of the team now and I thank Rotary for making me so welcome; come along and join this fabulous bunch, we’d love to have you.
